At first glance, Lyng looks rather imposing, tall and scarred along his left side with an eyepatch over his left eye. He has a limp to his gait, preferring his left leg to his right, and can be seen wielding a mean looking scythe on his back. To those sensitive to it, his aether is noticeably tainted with that of the Void - a clear sign of his pact with his avatar - despite his best efforts to hide it.Upon talking to him, though, his soft smile and sweet voice give away his rather kind demeanor. Despite his confidence in his abilities as a fighter, he still lacks in some confidence in his ability to talk to new people, and is a frequent worrywart to both friends and strangers alike.
Orphaned as a child and raised in the deserts of Thanalan by an Ala Mhigan woman, Lyng came to be the unlikely hero who would be known as the Warrior of Light.Though having faced hardships most could scarcely imagine, Lyng is a quiet and sensitive soul. He keeps his identity secret to the public at large, happy to attempt to live a normal life outside of his work, simply travelling and enjoying the company of others.Of course, his helpful nature tends to get the better of him, and he often finds himself sticking his nose in other people's business if he thinks he may have a chance at lending a hand.
History

Found amidst stolen cargo from a caravan raided by bandits, the young Xaela babe was taken in by an Ala Mhigan refugee and raised in a small village in Thanalan. His adopted mother was runaway member of the Fist of Rhalgr, and she raised Lyng to follow in her footsteps - to become a monk, and carry on her legacy. For a time, they lived happily - until the Calamity stole from them their home, when Lyng was only 20 summers old. Lyng's mother forced the young monk-in-training on a pilgrimage, then, in an attempt to unlock his chakra.Pushed to the point of abuse for three years, never closer to unlocking even his first chakra, Lyng abandoned his mother to the wastes, taking all of their gil and possessions and leaving her for dead.

He wandered on his own for two years more as a fist-for-hire, until stepping on the toes of a Brass Blade in the midst of a sting operation. The Blade directed him to the Adventurer's Guild, where he could act in a more official capacity and stay out of the hair of the law.Once the events of A Realm Reborn began and he was made to travel the world, Lyng abandoned the Way of the Fist and took up the lance, finding his strength in the form of polearms.

- Five years passed -

By the events of Endwalker, Lyng was a master dragoon - on par with his fellow Scion, Estinien. But his career as a dragoon would come to an end with his fateful clash with the disgraced crown prince of Garlemald, Zenos viator Galvus. Body marred, eye stolen, and the tendons of his right leg cut clean through, Lyng could no longer wield his lance the same way, let alone Jump. During his recovery in Ul'dah, he ran into Drusilla and the Lemures. She offered to him a way to regain his stolen power, by borrowing that of another - that of a voidsent avatar.

The similarities between the lance and the scythe led to an easy transition, and offering his own pool of aether to his hungering avatar, Lyng's aether-touched cheeks and hair turned dark once and for all.
